IMAGE EDITING

Image related stuff

On this page you will find some of the best examples of what I can do when it comes to image editing. I'm used to doing photo manipulations, where you need to know how to correct colors, crop the subject, integrate elements into a new image and remove unwanted objects. Therefore,
If your project requires any of these skills, you already know that I can do it.

What is

Below you will see some examples of photomanipulation I've been doing over the years. But then you might ask: An what is a photomanipulation? Well... It is basically image editing, but usually is more focused on creating imaginative scenarios, as if the image was a screenshot of a movie, or a TV show. People often use this technique to create beautiful images of a fantasy scene. Some use it to create science fiction scenary as well. So... this is widely used among creators.

What is

Corredor Sci-fi

Dang it! They caught me...

On the scene above, for example, I wasn't in that corridor. I just took a photo of me wearing that hoodie and looking downwards like that. Then I pasted it on top of this digital art of a sci-fi corridor, as if I was infiltrated into a space ship, of something like that. Then, after I've finnished taking what I was looking for, that guy saw me walking down that corridor, but, at the same time, I heard him walking behind me. This made me stop and think: "Dang it! They caught me..." Which is why the image is like that.

Well... of course none of this actually happened. It is just the back story of this photo manipulation. And this adds believeability to the image as a whole. On top of that, Ive added these lens flares to simulate a movie scene, of something like that. And that's why, when I posted this image, one of my friends ask me: "When is the movie releasing?"

How is it made?

Rodrigo na Varanda

In this example, I'm not in this cozy balcony. I was at my house's varanda. But yet, I was able to make me appear to be in this cozy and beautiful balcony, right?

It look like that, because the angle is correct, my body positiong related to the camera is correct, the light on me is matching the illumination on the balcony, the colors on me are also matched...

Anyways... everything is matchting the image of the balcony. And all I had to do was to insert me on that dangling chair.

The only wrong thing in this image, that bother me until today, is the fact that I left my leg too much bright. I think it should be a little bit darker, maybe? Then it wouldn't pop up that much in this image.

But all the rest, I think, is good enough to transmit the sensation that I'm actually there. But I wasn't. That's the magic of photo manipulation. We take a main character and insert him in a whole diferent location. But it still fits correctly!

This is super cool, and is really amazing to see what some really talented creators can do. And below here you will be able to see a VFX breakdown of me doing the edit for this image above.

What is the limit?

Well... when you know what you are doing, the not even the sky is the limit, because you can put a person on top of and asteroid and people will still think it is looking good.

So, in this image on the right, for example: the guy is literally in a heavenly place looking down to earth, but still looks "realistic". Because the light looks realistic, the planets look realistic, the clouds look realistic... even the shadows look correct.

And that's why you don't mind the fact that he is standing in the middle of the air.

Homem nas Nuvens

What is the limit?

Rodrigo Triplicado

So, if you want to make a clone effect, or want to make it look like you have been on vacation those two monts you've been off... you just need a photo well manipulated, mathcing colors, lights and shadows, and you will be set.

Take a picture of yourself with the proper clothes, the correct positioning related to the camera and face expression, send it to me, and I'll do the magic. You will certainly be surprised by the end result. I cannot ensure you, but this was what happened with everyone that I tried to edit their photos.

Rodrigo na Estrada Amadeirada

In this one, for example, I was outside, on my front yard and took this picture during the morning to match the sunlight angle.

But I still needed to cut me out of the original photo to paste it on top of this one.

But that was not all, I still needed to color correct the scene and myself to make them match.

I added that lens flare coming from the sun to have an element over me, to make it even more believeable.

This was the end result. I like it.

The good thing about having these drawing abilities is that, when combined with the ability of image editing, I can create cool things like this, for example. I changed the skin color of the girl in this image. On the left is the original image I found online, the other one on the righ in the one I made by changing the skin tone and the eyes color. These are some cool little chalenges I like to do to myself to train and master my abilities. I always recomend you do it, because if you are not evolving, believe me: you are getting worse. It is inevitable. More than Thanos. Because life tends to this side: decay.

So always try to improve your abilities by placing cool little chalenges for yourself. Like this website, for example: it was a really cool chalenge for me to improve it's visual and it's overall "professionality". But, don't worry, I have a page talking about my website skills too. But, now let's take a look at this other image below:

In this one, I was on my job's place, during a break for the lunch and decided to take this picture.

I didn't had the background yet, but I had the idea to make it look like I was inside of a fancy room, living a calm and rich life.

Then I saw this image online and decided to use it in this composition. It matched perfectly with the angle of the camera.

Then, all I had to do, was to color correct me to match the room, add that arm chair back, on top, and match the shadows on my feet and on the chair. It ended up looking really good.

My Future Home
Man on the Bench Raining

In this one, I was on my couch, at home. Just a simple picture of me sitting on the couch, looking strait to the camera.

This one I tried to make it look more abstract, as if I was in somewhere in between reality, like the Matrix movie.

So I crafted the background entirely, from scratch. I found a bench online, put down a random floor, a city on the background... and we are done.

Now just match the lightning, the shadows and add raind drops... lots of rain drops. And don't forget to add reflection on the ground because of the water.

And this is what I've done. I like it.

In this one I've used a different technique: I used After Effects to add a 3D element to the scene.

Then I just tried to mach the color and tried to place it behind the mountains, to make it look giant.

This was supposed to be a secret base in the middle of Iceland, or something like that. I don't know.

But it ended up look good enough for me to place it down here, on my portfolio.

Now in this example above, I had to add a hat to that girl. And, no, I didn't used AI to do it for me. I made it manually. If you look closely, you will see some errors, due to limitations on how the hat look like. Because I didn't had enough time to remove the background of the original image of the hat, so... I had to leave it a little bit blurried. But I think it worked quite well. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't told you that, you probably wouldn't notice it. And below you can see the same girl on the side of a truck. The original objective of this image was to place her in that sticker for a costumer.

Mockups

Mockup is when you add an object to an image that didn't have it before. Generally, a mockup is used to demonstrate what it would look like if a logo were sewn onto some fabric, or what it would look like if it were painted on some other type of surface. Not to be confused with photo manipulation, because the objective is usually to add a small object to the image: usually a logo, a text, an icon, or something like that. But it still fits inside the image editing category, so that's why it is here in this page.

The Mockup

This design above was made for a customer to better demonstrate how my design would look on their product. He sent me the work that another designer had done and said he wanted something more professional, clean, minimalist and that followed the design style of his brand. So I made this design for him.
